BOOK EXCERPT
HARVEY PENICK'S LITTLE RED BOOK. Lessons and Teachings from a Lifetime in Golf.by Harvey Penick with Bud Shrake. 1992, Simon & Schuster. New York.

How To Tell Where You're Aimed
Take your stance and hold a clubshaft along the front of your thighs. Look where the club is pointing, and you will see where you are aimed.
Laying the club on the ground at your feet will tell you very little.
Much is made of how to aim.
Hit the ball solidly, and I can show you where you were aimed. Once you learn this, your mind will tell you how to aim.
"Putting - a game within a game - might justly be said to be the most important part of golf." Bobby Jones 1902-1971. THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO SURVIVAL HANDBOOK: GOLF
by Joshua Piven, David Borgenicht and James Grace.
2002, Chronicle Books. San Fransisco
HOW TO TREAT SUNBURN
1. Get out of the sun immediately.
2. Do not apply suntan lotion, oil, petroleum jelly, ointment, or butter to the burn.
These will make the symptoms worse and prevent the skin from cooling in the air.
3. Apply a cool compress.
Take off your shirt and soak it in cold water. Dunk it in water hazard if no other source of water is available. Wear the shirt and hold it on the burned area.
4. Drink water.
Drink 32 to 64 ounces of water will prevent dehydration and promote sweating.
5. Use a soothing gel or lotion on the skin to cool the burned area.
Aloe works best. If aloe plants grow nearby, break off a leaf and squeeze the gel out directly.
6. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience serious symptoms.
Side effects to watch include faintness, dizziness, a fast pulse or breathing; pale; clammy, or cold skin; sensitivity to light; rash; fever; nausea; or chills.
BE AWARE
- Avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. standard time because the sun is at its hottest during these hours. Remember that the sun's rays are stronger at high altitude and close to the equator.
- Use a sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 15, and apply it at least 30 minutes prior to exposure.
- If the burn is mild, a hot shower immediately after the burn can cause peeling and actually relieve itchiness more quickly.
- Prolonged exposure to the sun and heat can also cause exhaustion and/or heatstroke. Heat exhaustion is usually a mild illness brought on by exposure of heat, but heatstroke, which develops beyond the point of heat exhaustion, can be fatal. Symptoms of both include fever and sweating, but an important difference is the presence of mental confusion. If the victim is confused, the illness is no longer heat exhaustion - it is heatstroke.

June's Battle of the Buayas by Duck
The scene was set for a tight battle for the DHS golfers yesterday. All four are looking to battle their way into contention although each of them are recovering from flu. At the opening hole par five, Nazree hit a draw tee shot on to the middle of the fairway while seeing the others missed it and faltered towards the green. His second shot sliced into the right cowgrass and had to punch from under a tree from 110 meters. His shot bulleted into the green and two putted for a comfortable par. At hole 2 par three, it turned around for team Muaz and Sufi as both of them parred with Sufi teed his ball accurately into the green. Muaz evened the matchplay at 8th with a par but Riaz came up with a stunning in-regulation par at 9th to bring matchplay to 1-up for team Riaz and Nazree before the turn.
At the 11th, both Muaz and Sufi found fairway elegantly, but Nazree and Riaz teed into the left rough. Sufi slightly pushed his second shot but recovered to make par. "This is my best score so far, sama aku belurih dua par tapi next time aku mesti take advantage of the chocolates (strokes per hole) yang kana bagi lah," replied Sufi. Riaz chipped in after his approach landed on the rough but only to make a consolation double bogey. Desperate to make ground, Nazree hit the green on 12th but had a tricky 25-footer-downhill-double-breaking putt to face. His first putt caromed of the lip of the hole and two putts after that, a disappointing bogey. At 15th, Nazree hit a scorching 250 meter tee shot but short sided himself on the appraoch. Again his short game let him down when he walked away with a confidence-shattering double bogey. That meant team Muaz and Sufi winning the hole due to a nett bogey by Sufi. Muaz scrambled for a brilliant par at 16th and 17th while Nazree can only manage to bogey both. Muaz said, "Akhir atu baru tah ku hot, tapi baik jua when it all mattered lah to win team event saja ok lah tu". Holing the par putt at 17th, team Muaz and Sufi won the matchplay event 3-up with one hole to go ending a well fought match packed with action from start to end.
Sadly, Riaz had to withdraw at 13th due to recurring flu but he had flashes of brilliance nevertheless. Riaz commented "Inda nyaman main ku hari ani eh, tapi nyaman usul piasau atu...".
Nazree defended his title winning the individual strokeplay event, gross and nett. He commented, "Bekeraja bah kan mendapatkan bogeys, apatah lagi par. Putting ku a let down lah at 33 putts sama irons ku inda on hari ani". Muaz went second, Sufi third and Riaz at fourth. Team Muaz and Sufi won matchplay 3 &1.

BOOK EXCERPT
PUTTING OUT OF YOUR MIND by DR. BOB ROTELLA with BOB CULLEN.
2001, Pocket Books, Simon & Schuster. London.
He asked Tiger what he'd "seen" after he closed his eyes. Tiger would reply that he'd seen a "picture" of the hole. Earl taught Tiger to always see that mental picture of the hole before he struck the ball with his putter. He taught him not to worry about the mechanics of the stroke, just to make sure he saw that the target in his mind's eye before he putted the ball. He knew that Tiger's brain would take care of the rest more than often. It was inspired instruction. When Tiger is in clutch situations, when he falls back on his dominant habit, he's focusing tightly on his target, that picture in his mind. That's why he makes so many clutch putts.
'Do you know why I'm so goddamn good? I never moved my right knee.' Ben Hogan (1912-1997), to his caddie. 4-time PGA Player of Year; Grand Slam titles Champion, 4 U.S. Opens, 2 Masters, 2 PGAs and 1 British Open between 1946-53; 63 career wins.
